Hamadryads are Greek mythological beings that live in trees. Hamadryads are born bonded to a specific tree. If their tree died, the hamadryad associated with it died as well.  For this reason dryads and the gods punished any mortals who harmed trees.

  1. Hi Kathrin, I followed the link from Paul's blog.

I love your trees - your work is stunning.

I always loved the dryads in the Narnia tales - it made perfect sense to me as a child that trees had spirits.

Thanks for the link to the Sketching Trees guide - as someone who dabbles, trees have always been so hard to draw - I get lost in them sometimes - their complexity and yet such simplicity too.

  2. How kind, Lynn, it is also good to be reminded how we share those whole associations from our childhood. I wasn't introduced to the Narnia series until I was 17 - I read them in India of all places. I was enchanted... and to think that trees give us the gift of our breath.

    all the best kathrin
